Mix Up Your Deck

Before starting the round, be sure to mix up your deck with high to low Elixr attacks along with ground and aerial attacks. This becomes increasingly imporant as you unlock more cards and new characters.

Don’t Be the First to Attack

Ideally, you’d like for your opponent to make the first move while you fill up on Elixr. This will allow you to defend alongside your towers while setting up a nice counterattack. This doesn’t always work, but it’s always good to be ahead of your opponent in resources. There are times when your starting deck of cardsare lacking, so it’s a good opportunity to get rid of some of your weaker attacks such as your fireball which is not as relevant early in the round.

Balance Your Attacks and Defense

Defense will win you the most matches so be sure to defend as you are attacking. Although you will want to be the first to knock out your opponent’s towers, it’s important for your to salvage yours along the way.

Don’t Rush Your Attacks and Combine Forces

It’s important to build up your Elixr supply and think about what combination of cards you’d like to summon. Keep in mind that two cards can work a lot more efficiently with each other. For example, pair your Giant with your Skeleton Army. This will distract your opponents towers as your Giant creeps closer to his powerful attacks.

Skeleton Army is Your Best Friend

Although they are sensitive to arrow attacks, they are both versatile on attack and defense, especially when working with a Giant. Be sure to summon them if you see an opponent Giant or strong force come your way as the group will block the pathway towards your towers.

Manage Your Gem and Treasure Boxes

There are timers in this game and it is related to the treasure boxes. It’s important to see how long it will take for these boxes to unlock. Some take 12 hours, so it’s best start this process before you go to bed. You can still continue to play matches, but it does you no good other than help you devise new tactics. Overall, these treasure boxes will give you upgrades and new cards.

Basic Gameplay Tips

1) Wait for the opponent to make a move so you can act accordingly. If he drops a Knight, chuck aSkeleton Army. If he throws the Goblin Barrel at you, use Arrows before it lands to minimize damage (timing is essential). All minions have a weakness and you just need to use these to your advantage. eg. Pekkas/Princes are super strong, but both will die to a Skeleton Army (be careful of Arrows though)!

2) Don’t waste your elixir. Chucking down 2 Archers will do literally no damage to the enemy tower and you’ve just wasted 3 elixir. Similarly, you don’t need to deal with every minion. If they chuck down some weak minion with nothing to back it, just let your towers deal with them and take that 20 damage. Also, don’t just use all your elixir in one go. If you use all your elixir to trade for an enemy tower, they might just use this chance to blowout your entire other side.

3) Have minions in your deck that you can use when stalling. There will be times when you’re both waiting to see what happens, and you need to have troops you can chuck down if you start approaching 10 elixir; you never want to be maxed out. These are troops like Giant Skeletons, Barbarians or the camps that spawn dudes. Ideally you want to spend as little as possible though, just in case you need to deal with enemy troops.

4) Versatility is the key. This should probably be up the top in terms of importance, but have a good mix of troops. You need to be able to deal with different threats but also be able to go on the offensive if need be. You don’t want all melee troops, as you’ll get destroyed by air troops or Valkyries. With the way the game is currently set, this will be the hardest part as chests take too long to open. Join a clan to get those common troops upgraded by asking for donations.

5) Don’t just upgrade troops when you can for the sake of it. If you don’t plan on using it, don’t waste thegold yet. The cards aren’t going anywhere and you’re wasting gold for when you might actually need it to upgrade something good. You can also donate cards you don’t need for good donation karma and goldand experience!

6) Be patient. Right now, the game is only a few days old and most people who are playing can afford to chuck some money into the game. That means if you’re free-to-playing, you’ll eventually hit a spot where it’s really hard to level up with the troops you have just because everybody has all the rares/epics.

6a) But maybe you’re also doing something wrong with your troop composition. Experiment and see where you’re going wrong. Have a look at the replays of the higher players. Some of the highest ranked players at the moment are using just commons and select rares. Copy them if you have to, and see how they’re using those troops.

7) Don’t get disheartened if you go on a losing spree. Like every game, it’s going to happen every now and then. Gaining trophies in this is the same as any ranked game (ie. Hearthstone); it’s a grind and you’ll need to be patient and gain slowly. But again, if you feel like you’re doing something wrong, maybe change your strategy and composition until you find something you like using.

Five Rules to A Killer Battle Deck

With over 23 troop cards and 9 spell cards to choose from, you have to remember that there’s only 8 spots on your battle deck. So it’s crucial you pick the right cards to represent your battle deck. So to help you pick the right cards for your battle deck, here’s five rules to a killer battle deck!

1. Make sure your cards compliment each other

I’ve interviewed and watched replays of high level players and it seems they all have something in common – make sure each card compliments 1 or 2 more cards in your deck. You probably could get away with this strategy at early arena levels but when you start hitting arena 4+ you need to make sure that your cards works together dynamically.

So why should your card compliment 1 or 2 more cards? Because you don’t have control over what pops up on your immediate hand deck when your battling.

2. Card rarity don’t mean much on Clash Royale!

With the way Clash Royale works, you can basically obtain all 42 cards without having to purchase gems. Thats what I love about supercell’s approach to this game! Don’t be afraid to have commons in your deck, if they compliment your deck, keep it on! The only reason why rarity exist is there’s an excuse to charge x amount on certain cards.

3. Skeleton army is a must

I might be biased but the skeleton army card is a must for your battle deck. They can stop high hitpoint meat shields, they can do collateral damage to towers, and they don’t cost much (4 elixirs)! Skeleton can be an alternative if you don’t have the skeleton army card.

4. Level up your troops!

It might sound like common sense but you NEED to level up your troops! Make sure you check the shopdaily where you can buy cards for coins! If you can’t find your troop card, then change it for another alternative! It doesn’t make sense to hold onto a card that’s only level 2 and your level’s average cards are all level 6-7 (unless it’s skeleton army ;P).

5. Stick to your arena average elixir cost!

You can have the best epic cards on your battle deck, but you have to understand, most epics use up 4+elixir and your elixir regen isn’t going to cater for your exquisite collection of epics. Here’s a indicator of where your average elixir cost should be:

• Training camp – 2.8 to 3.0
• Goblin stadium – 3.0 to 3.5
• Bone pit – 3.5 to 3.8
• Barbarian Bowl – 3.9 to 4.1
• P.E.K.K.A’s playhouse – 3.9 to 4.5
• Spell valley – ?? to ??
• Royale Arena – ?? to ??

6 Tips on Increasing Battle Wins!

1. Don’t be the first to attack

There’s plenty of reasons why you shouldn’t be the first to attack.

• fill up your elixir – While you wait for your opponent to send a troop to attack, you’ll have a few precious seconds to recharge your elixir and figure out who’ll you play to defend your buildings.So what if both of us is playing this strategy? I figured that most opponents get antsy after 10 seconds in the game, and start sending troops out. 10 seconds is plenty of time to full recharge your elixir bar :).
• Identify if your opponent has a strategy or not – You can establish if your opponent has a plan or not by the first troop they send out. Here’s a tip to see if your opponent is either mindlessly sending out troops or calculating a plan of attack. If they send out a troop that cost 4-5 elixirs on the first go, then follows up with sending another troop that costs 2-3 elixirs, they DO NOT have a strategy at all. Their strategy is to go guns blazing and hope for the best.Otherwise, people who are pretty switched on will send out a troop that’ll cost them 1-2 elixirs or their lowest troop to test out the waters. This is to see how you’ll react, imagine your opponent sending out a skeleton and you send out a mini P.E.K.K.A. and a Giant. This displays you’re afraid and willing to waste elixirs to stop troops. Next time someone does this to you, let the crown towers take care of it, don’t be afraid to take some damage.

2. Don’t rush, take things slow

People get afraid and go into rush mode when they see even the littlest opportunity to rush. You have 3 minutes to either win or lose, take the time to understand your troops/spells and figure out your opponent’s strategy/motives. Build up your elixir bar, and only send out troops that work together. For example:

• Knight + Baby Dragon combo
• Giant + Skeleton army combo

3. Be versatile, commit to both sides

Prior to the Goblin stadium, I would focus on the left side and send all my troops to the left side. It worked, but doesn’t mean it’ll work after Arena 1. Anything above Arena 2-3 you should be versatile and be ready to send troops on both sides. If you only want to focus on one side, make sure you keep an eye out on what your opponent is sending to defend your attacks.

For example, if they’re sending out troops like Giants, knights, skeleton army, etc to defend, then they’re committed to defending your attacks. However, if they’re sending out skeletons, archers, goblins etc, be wary that they may be plotting to send their higher hitpoint/attack troops to the other side. I’ve had this happened to me plenty of times, and most of the time they win because you’ve already spent all yourelixir on one corner.

4. keep an eye out on your elixir cost average

Take it the info with a grain of salt, as these numbers are indicators of what i’ve personally experienced or observed. This does not mean you have to upgrade your battle deck every time you’re in a specific arena, it’s just a key indicator of what you should be shooting for, in consideration of your troop level and your level.

5. Skeleton army = your defensive squad

If you’re lucky to obtain a skeleton army troop card, make sure they’re equipped to your battle deck.Skeleton army can rip through high hitpoint troops like nothing. My suggestion is to ONLY use skeleton army when you’re defending or trying to rip through meat shields. They are by no means good for attacking (unless you’ve weakened towers to 2/3 of the health.

6. Balance yourself at being the offense and defense

I’ve made this mistake earlier on the game, I was the aggressor and sent any troops I had, my elixir bar would go from quarter full to empty in a matter of seconds, and I would pre-pull out the card because of the anticipation of rushing to destroy the crown towers/king’s tower.

Take advantage of the time that it takes for Giant to reach your side. If Giant is literally 4 footsteps away from your towers, send out the skeleton army! Most likely your opponent will use fireball/arrows which cost 3/4 elixirs, then send out your a fast movement troop to attack the towers.

1. Staying on top of trending strategies at Royale TV

TV Royale is an important section of Clash Royale, basically you get to watch replays of top global players battle it out with each other. The importance of watching replays is understanding what works, and what doesn’t! It’s also great to be the observer rather than playing it live action and experimenting.

And of course, since these are high-level players you’d probably won’t have access to cards they have, but it’s more of how they play their cards, where they place them, and what they have in their deck – for future references.

2. If you have a weak starting hand, be the person who starts second

Ash explains that if you start off with a weak hand which may be lower elixir troop cards (goblins,skeletons, archers etc) stick to defence until your higher level cards are in your hands. The reason for this is so that way you can see which tower/side your opponent is targeting for. Which in-case you’ll mount a strong defensive resistance, turning that into your offensive play.

3. Be efficient with your elixir

The purpose of being efficient with your elixir is to manage your troop summons. You don’t want to send too much troops or too few troops, for example – if your opponent’s tower health is 3/4 gone, you wouldn’t use prince (which cost 5 elixir) to destroy it when you have a giant in play. In contrast, if the opponent’s tower has full health, then sending out prince to help giant would be viable.

4. Even if you’re winning by 1, going offensive can be good

So by now your opponent know’s which side you’ll be going for when it comes to offensive, and is ready to send out 95% of their troops to that side to compensate for the destroyed tower. This is where you can go offensive and attack the other side with two of your strongest troops, while going on the defensive protecting your tower.

5. Build a well-balanced deck and then tweak from there!

Last but not least, building a well-balanced deck. The purpose of building a well-balanced deck is to get a feel of what cards work great with each other. It is recommended that you switch no more than 1-2 cardsat a time, when optimising your battle deck.
